An Interview with Bridgid Lupetin

An Interview with Bridgid Lupetin

Bridgid Lupetin is a Boulder, CO local artist who we are proud to be featuring in the store for the next couple months. Bridgid’s work is breathtaking and invites a calming energy into the space. We took some time to get to know Bridgid a little better and share her story with you…

How Did You Find Your Groove?
I had an art project in middle school where the teacher said to draw anything, no wrong answers, just get things out on paper. I had a sense that “this feels so good”. I experienced the pleasure of creating something and feeling a lot of pride in creating something that represents pieces of myself without communicating the work verbally. I began experimenting with mediums in high school in different ways - creating paints and getting curious about different ways to let the unsaid things from within out and be expressed. In college I studied art and I have classical training, but my sweet spot is abstract art. Using it to process the external world through my own lens and finding beauty and balance in something that is asymmetrical.

Favorite Style to Work In?
I like to experiment. My studio has a lot of different fabrics and I have been playing around with textures. Abstract oil painting is my safe place that feels most comfortable. I love working with paint, especially Radiant White, and how it plays with the other colors. A muted and meditative tone has been more what has come out since starting graduate school at Naropa University, but the rainbow paintings are still present in my style as well.

Where Do You Find Most Of Your Inspiration?
Inspiration comes from everywhere for me, but mostly in relationships and relational dynamics. Music is something I use as a processing tool as well. A lot of the works that I found really significant were created when working through something difficult and I used them to help me process and find the beauty in connection and the natural world. I am a passionate outdoorist, I love moving over snow, I drew inspiration from that in a lot of my works as well.

How Do You Name Your Pieces?
Sometimes it is really obvious. People that know me can have a grasp of the source material, but I don’t know. I think it is a blend of my interest in the subconscious, dream work, and weather patterns. I am fascinated by how weather interacts in the mountains. I studied mountain river hydrology in college actually. I love how things move across other things. I like to look at the art from a birds eye view, seeing the landscape, different features, and their movements. However, there are other pieces that are very internal and contemplative. Those feel more like they shouldn’t be named just taken as observable moments, almost like a look within.

What’s Something You Would Like Our Readers to Know?
Some people think I am under the influence while creating art but most of the time it’s just inspiration from my own experiences!
